How would you furnish this room?

I worked on a recent interior design project to help my client create a layout for an oddly shaped living room. Although the room is big, the client was unsure how to place the furniture and where to add storage and an electric fire.

The goal was to create three zones, one for watching TV, a reading space and a play space for their baby. The storage was used to unify the three areas with one colour palette.

Proposed Plan

Creating a play area at the large window at the front of the house. An informal seating space at a new electric fireplace in the centre of the room. To the rear of the house, a large L-shaped sofa defines the cosy lounge space with wall mounted TV and feature panelling.

Moodboard

I shared these inspiration images with the client to give a feeling of the materials and finishes proposed. The client was looking for a calm colour palette. A dual sided electric fireplace was selected and a storage bench with a top that could be a seat/ play surface or display space.

Storage Layout 1

The first sketch elevation I created to show additional shelves within existing recesses, low toy storage with rounded ends that double as a bench, and feature timber batten cladding behind TV and on new chimney breast for feature fire.

Storage Layout 2

The second sketch elevation I created to show larger shelves and off-centre fireplace, low toy storage with rounded ends.
