What Danish Design Can Teach Us About Living Well (Especially in Smaller Homes)
In Copenhagen, even the smallest homes feel calm, thoughtful, and deeply human. After spending time in the city over the past three years, I’ve come home inspired by the ways Danish families design for real life — not just for aesthetics. From spaces that work twice as hard, to warm lighting, shared courtyards, and rooms designed around connection, Danish homes offer valuable lessons for anyone living in smaller Irish homes. Here’s what we can learn.
Smart Space Wins
It’s not always about having more space—sometimes it’s just about using it better.
Small design decisions can have a big impact on how your home works day to day. Think:
Under-stairs storage that actually gets used
Pocket doors that save space and add flow
A quiet nook that doubles as a reading spot and guest room
A utility area tucked neatly behind tall units
Clever design is all about making the most of what you have—so your home feels calm, functional, and just that bit more you.
Have a favourite smart design detail in your home? I’d love to hear!
“Can you have a window in the shower?”
“Can you have a window in the shower?”
It’s a question I get a lot—and the answer is yes! With the right glass, proper detailing, and a bit of thoughtful design, a window inthe shower can add both light and function.
Bonus: the sill can even double as a handy spot for shampoo bottles if you’re short on space.
Swipe through for a few tips on how to make it work.
Would you go for a window in the shower?

Stoneybatter Project Update
We have lift off! The strip out has begun on my Stoneybatter project.
This is an exciting stage of the project where we start to expose original features (hopefully) and the client gets to see the house brought back to its original structure!
This is also when we find unforeseen obstacles, which may need a revised design - for example, this structural post under the stairs.
The new flooring, tiles, doors, sanitary-ware and kitchen have been ordered.
Because this is a small project, I will be meeting the builder on site every week. Next I will be meeting the client on site to pick paint colours. Exciting!
